Participate in Shrewsbury’s first Meditation for Health Day October 4th

Shrewsbury’s first Meditation for Health Day

I have just received an exciting email from Ben Calder and rather than explain, I have just copied and pasted it over.  It will be a great day.
For those of you who don’t know me I am Ben Calder the Director of Centre for Integral Health on St Austin’s Friars in Shrewsbury.
This October we are planning to co-ordinate Shrewsbury’s first town wide Meditation for Health Day on October 4th.
Being an Integral Centre, our ethos is that every world view has a place in the grand whole. All being complete within themselves but partial in that all the others wholes have value and a place too. We are going to co-ordinate a Meditation for Health day to help improve awareness and practice of all forms of meditation and contemplation for health purposes, while improving awareness of the different providers and forms of meditation that Shrewsbury as a town has to offer.
Our vision for this Meditation day has several levels
  • To demonstrate and promote meditation and contemplation for its health benefits.
  • To encourage practice on a regular basis to help raise the health and well being of the the town and its people.
  • To show that there are a wide range of providers and approaches to meditating, all of which have value.
  • To create a greater degree of connection between all the providers and forms of meditation and contemplation in Shrewsbury on account of their commonalities and shared purpose.
  • To raise funds for the chosen charities of the event; Midlands Air Ambulance and Severn Hospice.
We have already booked the market square for this event so that we are able to have a co-ordination point, informing and directing the people of the town to all the various events taking place on this day (which is where you come in), to hold a series of ‘Flash’ Meditations at 10am, 1pm and 4pm for all those present to join in with. Hopefully we will also have a series of yoga, tai chi, chi kung and other demonstrations taking place throughout the day to demonstrate their meditative and health benefits.
We are also going to approach all of the town centre businesses who are open on that saturday and ask them to join us for a one minute silent meditation at 1pm and try to get as much of the town centre involved in this as possible.
What we are asking is for you to offer to provide a programme of meditation or contemplation on that day, from whatever tradition you represent. You have totally free reign to put on whatever you would like in terms of content and we would be grateful if you can do any amount from a single sitting to a whole day programme. The important thing is you are doing meditation on that day with all of us who are involved.
Although the event is for charity we are only asking you to donate what you feel is reasonable from whatever you take on this day. We shall for example be donating all profits made from the event to charity, but as with the programme you offer, the choice is yours.
We will put the details of whatever events you are offering in a programme to distributed freely from each events location and from the co-ordinating tent in the market square. There will also be a dedicated page on the integralhealthshrewsbury.com website with all the details of the events and the providers.
We are also looking for yoga and tai chi/chi kung and other teachers to offer to do some demonstration in the square at various points in the day, again this could include anything that you feel has a fair relationship to meditation and contemplation.
If you feel you can support this event and become part of the first all tradition Meditation for Health Day in Shrewsbury, then please reply to me and let me know what you can offer, even if its something very simple, all support will be welcome. If you know of any individual or organisation in the town who you think would be interested in taking part then please share this email and let them know.
Also if you are not interested in taking part, please can you let me know so I can remove you from our database.
I look forward to us all working closer together towards a shared goal of improving the health of the town and its people.
Best wishes
