Chris Thorn – Didgeridoo Healing
Chris Thorn perform’s with his Didgeridoo to create a healing sound for pure relaxation, meditation and well-being and holds concerts, workshops and tutorials throughout the UK.
Chris is going to perform and hold a workshop at this years Exhibition of Healing & Complementary Therapies, here is a little more about Chris.
The healing effect of the Didgeridoo work’s two fold. Firstly, as we are all made up of approximately 75% water it is like throwing a pebble into a pond, the vibration’s of the Didgeridoo travel through the body creating what I call a ‘sonic massage’, deep into all living tissue matter, in fact much deeper than any conventional massage is able to do. Secondly, people that were having Didgeridoo sound healing on a 1:1 basis were wired up to an electro encephalogram (EEG) which record’s brain-wave’s. This showed that during the Didgeridoo sound healing the brain entered into a state of ‘Theta and Delta’ the same as in sleep and dream like state’s. An altered state of consiousness if you like. A big part of pain management is to try to relax, meditate if you can. So there is a very powerful analgesic effect. Also whilst in this state of ‘Theta and Delta’, total relaxation, there is the ability to ‘let thing’s go’ such as stress, anxiety, worry. It is not unusual for client’s to burst into tear’s during a sound healing, I like to think it is not because of my Didgeridoo playing!!! I have worked with client’s such as teacher’s, policemen and people suffering from ‘post traumatic stress’ and the feedback I often get is that the experience has been ‘life changing’! How wonderful!
Chris Thorn also provide Didgeridoo lesson’s either on a 1:1 basis or as a group, which can be quite fun.
I provide the tool’s for the client to be able to play the Didgeridoo proficiently with just 20 minute practice per day. I cover posture, mouth position, its not just any kind of rasberry you blow that make’s the Didgeridoo play! I explain and demonstrate how to circular-breath, (how to keep playing continuously) without getting out of breath. To do this I encorperate exersise’s with balloon’s and a straw and a glass of water, once mastered a great party trick….keeping the bubble’s going with the straw and glass of water! If the client/student is able to create the basic drone on the Didgeridoo and looks promising with the circular breathing I will then go on to teach how to do rythum’s and vocal’s. This is very rare though. I only charge £25 for a Didgeridoo lesson, but the lesson is as long as it last’s and as many more session’s the student feel’s they need, within reason of course, so it is just a one off payment.
I also have a large selection of Didgeridoo’s for sale at very reasonable price’s and provide a repair service for any unloved Didg’s, Heaven forbid!
I also have my own CD album’s for sale of which there is 5 so far. Just £7 each or 2 for £12. I produce them myself which keep’s the price low.
I offer Indian Head Massage having gained my Diploma to practitioner level with the Solace Acadamy.
I am a Reiki level 3 practitioner too.
In my spare time I work full-time as a Registered Psychiatric nurse (RMN)!!!
