Welcome to Shrewsbury’s dedicated Zen Meditation Practice.

Our monthly class is open to all levels of ability and practice, from beginners to the enlightened.
The class will consist of 2 distinct phases:

We begin the class with a classic Zen Shikantaza or ‘Just Sitting’ from the Soto School founded by Dogen Zenji.
With this practice we find a comfortable position to sit, either cross legged or in a chair, and we leave the mind alone. It is an objectless form of meditation where we wait to allow the mind to come to the point of non-thinking while relaxing the breath.

The second phase we will engage in a series of Zen Voices. This is a voice dialogue based practice made famous by Genpo Roshi with his Big Mind work. We will ‘speak’ to certain aspects of the self to better understand how they add value to our lives, looking to turn the disowned voices into fully owned and embodied forms so that they can be a constructive part of our lives.
The voices will vary each month, depending on season, theme or specific provocation in the moment.

All techniques will be guided and supported in each session and all participants will be able to achieve success each session. No prior skill or experience is needed to participate.

Practice will begin at 7.30 and there will be a £5 fee to attend.

If you have any questions and to register your interest please contact Ben on 07748947131 or email him on ben@bencalder.co.uk

Sessions will be lead by Ben Calder who has been practicing meditation and Qigong in various forms since 1990 and working with the Big Mind Zen system since 2011
